Product Overview
Caykur Filiz Cayi is a black tea harvested from young buds of tea plants in the Rize region of Turkey. This typically Turkish tea has a very delicate floral aroma and is low in tannins. It is pleasant in taste with or without sweeteners and is not very bitter. This low tannin content makes Turkish tea perfect for prolonged brewing, allowing the tea to steep gradually. Often prepared in Turkish tea brewing equipment known as '?aydanl?k' or 'semaver/samovar', Turkish tea is brewed gradually under indirect heat to create a strong brew that is often diluted to the desired strength with hot water and sweetened with beetroot sugar or honey.
Caykur Tea is the largest tea producer in Turkey and is state-owned. With plantations in the northeastern city of Rize on the Black Sea coast, Caykur tea produces more than half of all Turkish tea consumed in Turkey, which is the highest per capita in the world! The cultivation process is strictly and rigorously controlled, as Turkish law mandates production licenses and the import of tea products. Caykur tea meets all criteria and has state-of-the-art facilities with certification for organic production, awarded by Swiss authorities in 2013.
